Sorry about that, its a 1968. As you can see by the numbers, it is a VERY late 68 and I cannot find anywhere that the Saddle vinyl interior was available until the 69 model year. This car is a complete unrestored original( except paint ). Vin is 194378Sxxxxxx.

The rivets look good. I saw a post here awhile back about how they were installed originally and it stated that the center of the factory rivet gets pulled out, not cut like the rivet guns do today. It also said that sometimes one would break instead of pulling out, this is what I have, one the center is pulled out and the other is broke off flush.

Is the fabric material basketweave or comfortweave?

How do you tell the difference? It looks to be just the basic interior.

I don't think I can describe it well, but I'll try. This is the material in the seat inserts and on the sunvisors, '68 was basketweave, '69 was comfortweave.

The basketweave looks like the name suggests, an embossed weave pattern; while the comfortweave lasted until ~1975, looks more like a tight mesh.

It seems unlikely that a '68 would have saddle, comfortweave interior from the factory.

If you could provide a little more of your VIN, we can figure out if the K07/June 7th math is correct for your car. Although late production, June is not VERY late.

I know the door panels are different, with a different door pull in '68, and I think a comfortweave door panel insert in '69. The center console is also different in a '68, with slots to hold the seat belt buckles.

I agree that this seems strange, but an early post stated that the car would have been mostly(if not completely don't remember) done including paint and then would be hand stamped and installed on the car. If that was the case, could this be an error or maybe a special order?

I did not think it was safe to post complete VIN. I could PM you the info. If posting complete VIN is ok, then I will.

I must check on the center console tonight, I only have a couple of pics here and they do not show much. I can't see to post them anyway.

Steve

Thanks for then help. Could this be an error? My answers are in red.

I'm not quite following the fuss.

My copy of the 1968-69 NCRS judging manual clearly lists code 420 as being vinyl saddle for 1968 (as well as 1969)

Can you send me a copy? I have yet to find anywhere that the 420 Saddle came in a 68. This is good, because this tells me that I do indeed have a complete #s matching car. I could not believe that anyone would go to the trouble of changing the interior and trim tag to a car that I thought should not exist. Every place I looked, here, at Corvette Action Center, Ecklers, Corvette Central and others. Even the paperwork that GM sends out if you request info on an older car you own or are going to restore a 68 Vette that is Green has only Black interior as the available option.
Again, thank you for your info.
