Default Windshield replacement

Having the windshield replaced, it's a 74 with t-tops...

Anything to know for the glass guy that does the install? They work on older cars, but just wanted to inquire, thanks in advance,

Kevin

The trim can be tricky, but the windshield itself is fairly straight forward. Make sure he's using an old style butyl surround seal.

Install all the moldings around the windshield also and put some support from inside against the windshield to prevent it sink, if not you will have big gap between the moldings too the windshield.

I'm pretty sure only urethane is currently used

Yes. Most if not all pros do urethane installs.
Butyl kits are still available however.

Personally, I wouldn't let a high production glass shop do a windshield in a C3 Corvette.

Having the w/s out is the best time to check for rust on the pinch-weld portion of the birdcage. If there is any, it needs to be dealt with properly by removal and coating with epoxy primer. Not just slapping some urethane on top of the rust.
It's a 34 year old car. Chances are there is some rust. Having the w/s out of the way is also a good time to check for rust down from the w/s corners as well.

Spacer blocks are made to correct the windshield fitment when using urethane.

You want to make sure there is no rust. Butyl tape is pretty much Cave Mans style used to install a windshield.

Someone here recently used a high-volume shop and was very pleased with the results.

My take is this....would you rather go to someone that does alot of cars with alot experience or someone who doesnt do so many?

IMHO your best bet is to find a specialist even if he never done a vette, after explaining to him what you want and don't want he will know best how much sealant to applly and it will be applied staight. Also make a point that you want to be there when he does it to make sure its exactlly the right fit. Check in corvettefaq, theres a good wright up.
It is illigal to use butyl on windshields in my province, its unsafe.

I believe several forum members (myself included) have used Safelite with fine results.

So, ask Safelite what they will do if there is rust on the pinchweld.

i had the windshield replaced by one of my friends that did a few c,3s and they came out good, my car[a 72 coupe] was twisted up pretty good the windshield frame had to be streched to fit a piece of glass which i did myself then i asked him if he would install the glass and he balked but did it anyway, he laid a urathane bead then positioned the glass then set up the trim pieces, it came out exellent, the stainlees trim is up tight against window ,know he has confidance and said he will try a c-1 if i ever break my window in that car ,he was affraid to do that one so i had to do it myself ,then i did about 4 in my neighborhood

No, it's not. It's called Urethane and you can get it at Glass or Body Shop supplies.

Did mine.Took glass out .cleaned windshield frame and wire brushed frame with a dye grinder and painted. Called glass guy and had them install windshied The guy said it was illegal for him to put the 1 piece seal in. He had to put urethane calk in to make a good bond from w/s to frame for the strength of the whole top.It had to be shimmed out so the trim would fit tight against the w/s.
