Will 69 sidepipes fit correctly on a 82?

Yes they will fit just fine. I suggest you purchase or get a copy of the last pages in the 1969 assembly manual. This page will show you all that is needed to install them on the 1982 car.

All 1969 Small block cars were 2” exhaust flanged just as the 1982 cars were 2”. You will need to run either a spacer or a heat rise valve if you remove the original one from your car.

But why would you want to run that restrictive stock exhaust system under the covers? Much better-performing systems will fit just fine.

2k2c5 just asked if they would fit. The 1982 cars came with 2” manifolds, the 69 small block cars were 2”. The pipes flare out to 2.5 just after leaving the manifold.

I agree, if you want to improve they system this option is available. You can purchase the side pipes with the larger 2.5 flange but then you would have to change the manifold or go to headers.

If you are running a stock exhaust on the car, the change from the original exhaust to the stock side pipes alone will increase exhaust flow tremendously. Considering the fact that you loose the converter and the flow of the side pipe is way better than that of the stock exhaust.

I'll elaborate a little on my original question.

I have had my 82 for 4 years and it's in very good shape (63,000 original miles) and I have been seriously considering making it into a car that will be much more fun to drive (and look at) and one that will be somewhat unique.

I recently applied for Historic Plates here in Missouri (must be at least 25 years old to qualify) and will be exempt from safety and emissions testing.

My plans include a GM crate Ramjet 350 with the exhaust exiting through the afore mentioned 69 sidepipes. I am not looking to build a drag racer and I love the looks of the chrome aluminum 69 sidepipes (although they are quite pricey) so I am aware that they are not the best exhaust for all out performance but thats ok, I like the look.

I'm looking to improve driveability and fuel economy along with a power increase over the stock 200 hp Crossfire.

I also plan on front and rear suspension upgrades, upgraded brakes, new wheels and a repaint in the original Dark Claret paint along with some interior upgrades.

I know some regard the 82 as the red headed stepchild C3 but I like the bodystyle and best of all, it's paid for!

Missouri doesn't emissions-test much of anything without an OBDII port anymore, no matter what kind of plates you have. I'm keeping my '77 registered with regular driver plates.

As the friendly neighborhood Wilcox representative said, the covers will fit just fine. I installed a set of '69 originals on my '77 recently.
