Default Headlight switch vacuum failure

My rust investigation was put on hold this evening when the UPS man showed up with my new headlight relays. I quickly put them on, and combined with an earlier rebuild of the actuators, the headlights now go up and down.

The bad part, they only do this with the override switch. Headlight switch does nothing but turn them on and off.

Question: Has anyone heard of a failure of that switch in that manner? It seems like open vacuum is a more likely failure. I'm guessing it failed with open vacuum, which would pop open the lights and leave them open, so somebody bypassed that to rely on the override.

I didn't have the energy to stand on my head to look under the dash. Can't believe they designed them so you would have to drop the steering column to get at the switch. I guess I'll live with override for a while.

NO you can actually drop it by reaching up under the dash. One of tha vacum line may be off or broke that go to the switch. Check out Zip corvette's web sire thay have agreat tech artichle on how to change it.
