My 69 vette is a restomod so dont much care for the original stuff to some point, that said, Im confused about a part on the steering column.
Below the turn signal lever housing there is another housing that turns about 90 degrees, it also turns a lever on the bottom of the column.
WHAT is this for, what connects to the lower lever, and do I need it.
Maybe this in in the owners manual but I dont have one.

I'm a little lost here. On the lever at the bottom of the column, is it outside in the engine compartment. If so, this is your reverse lock out lever. There is a cable from the transmission to the bottom of the column that locks the column when in reverse.
Yes thats it, so it has something to do with reverse, I still dont understand it though, what locks on the column when I put it in reverse.
O wait! I think I got it, When I want to put it in reverse I have to turn that bottom ring first then put the shifter in reverse, correct?
You are probably missing the cable from the transmission to the steering column. You put the shifter into reverse and the cable turns the lever at the bottom of the column. That allows you to turn the key back far enough to remove it. Some people just zip-tie the lever so that the key can be removed in any gear (including neutral). I believe the purpose of the interlock was to prevent you from removing the key and locking the column while the car was in motion.
