Default Blank engine stamp pad...

Just saw this advertized in a vette add, aren't they all stamped on the passenger side front on C3s under the head?
Its a 69 w/ possibly late 70s engine, seller doesn't know much about it.
Are engine stampings later years behind the DS head?

Some over the counter engines in the 70's came with a completely blank pad.

Got a casting number and date?

I don't understand your concern.
If it has no numbers on the pad the only assumption you could make is it is not the original engine.
If it is the original engine and it has been decked and the numbers removed you could never prove to anyone that it is anything but a replacement engine.
The dates on the engine castings could tell you if it was made in the right time frame. That may add some value to some buyers but not as much as an original engine.
For value purposes assume it is a NOM.

Thats good to know about the blank pads.

No, I don't have any casting #s, the last time I contacted this guy about the car I asked if he could get me some pics of the birdcage mounts and the block stamp #s. He didn't know what the birdcage was at first so I sent him pics and how to get at them.

He said he was to "busy" to get this info so I figured I'd be wasting my time making a 2 1/2 drive to see what he might want to hide, that or he's that lazy to sell the car properly.

I just saw his car advertised again and now his add says "blank engine stamp pad" so wondered what was up w/ that to. I'm going to make a low ball offer, 1/2 what he (thinks) its worth and he can take it or keep it.

I just sold my 68 Stang, they guy was going to drive 3 1/2 hours to see it, after I sent all my pics , good and the bad, he bought it outright on the phone and once he got the car it was just as stated and both parties happy.
I did that working 12-14 hour days at the time, no excuse not to get these pics I asked for.
On one call on this vette I asked if it had headers, he had to open the hood to find out and he's had it a year
