Default Major progress made on the 72 this weekend

Well after trying a few different types of temp senders I gave up and just ordered the one from Lectric Limited. Plugged it in and there it was... everything worked. So for at least 72 and probably back... the temp senders from Napa and Autozone are not the correct resistance and will not work with our stock temp guages! So now my water temp guage works and I replaced my ammeter with one I got for a steal on fleebay and it works great. Finished installing the dewitts radiator and the electric fan setup and wired in the relay and it came on perfectly! I was so happy and had to crack open a beer for that one. Worked some more on the headlamp assemblies and got them most of the way installed. Still can't get that D@mn headlight switch to let loose and come out so I can replace it. Oh dear God I want to smash it so badly! and I will once I get it out! I then got a lot of the interior reinstalled and it looks great. I finished grinding down the welds where I had cut off the parking brake brackets so the C5 wheels will clear. They look great on the car and I just have to weld the brackets to the top of the trailing arm and re-route the p-brake line. Worked some more on stripping the body and got almost everything from the old paint removed. Started the sanding down of some of the rough spots and have a lot of work on the front fender bondstrips plus I will be filling in the antenna holes and the luggage rack holes on the rear deck.
I will have a few things for sale but dont really know prices to ask, maybe you guys can help: A. 6 hole luggage rack that came originally with my 1972 coupe ( february production). the rack is in great shape and I have all the mounting hardware plus many extras including the little plastic tips. B. the original cooling fan and clutch that I think is dated M71. Original 7 blade fan. Everything looks great on it and it worked perfect. I'm just going with electric fans now. C. aftermarket steering wheel that is a black three spoke with saddle leather wrapping. It came with the car and just like many other parts looks new and was never installed. In corvette America magazine these are listed for $229.00. I need to sell these and start trying to raise some money for paint costs. Hopefully i can get the body work done and get her painted back to Steel Citied Gray by the early summer! Any ideas on the prices would be great. I took pics this afternoon and will post them when I get to work in the morning....I don't want to go back out and get the camera, its just too late!

Thanks everyone...

Great to hear all the progress. Sorry the temp sender thing was such a pain. The simple things are never easy are they?

No they really aren't! And I still can't get that stupid light switch out!!! I really do think I am going to have to remove the lower dash pad again to get this thing either pulled off or cut the damn thing off.

When you guys pull the switch out.... are there two clicks or just one? Meaning is there one click for the parking and marker lights only and then a second click further out to activate the headlights ?

If I could get that working all I would have left are the reverse lights left to fix in all of my electronics....

Sully

P.S. I'm qworking on getting the pics uploaded of those three items I need to sell

Default clutch and fan

the fan is dated M71...i think that is december 1971 as my car is an early February 72 car. and on the clutch...that close up is supposed to show a blue stamp that has AX in it.

Honestly none of these parts have been cleaned or even dusted let alone polished... they are all in very good shape. How much should I ask for them. Either here to a member or I will stick on Ebay.

Thanks,

Sully

I had a 6 hole rack on the back of mine. I've got 4 of the 6 holes filled in, the last 2 are the bottom center ones. I've been told that You have to drop the gas tank in order to get at the back of them. So the tank will come out this week while there's only about a gallon or two of gas in it.

supervette...

yes, you are right, those two lower center holes look like the tank has to be dropped to get to and fill correctly. I have a friend who has a 72 like mine and I have helped him drop his tank and actually this wednesday I will be helping him reinstall it. Mine happens to be about half full of high octane liquid gold so I guess I will be siphoning it out to a gas can!!!

yeah you do need to make the trip, maybe we can organize a vette/cards game trip. I'd have to check into safe parking though? would be cool even if you bring the c5 up. Hard to "tailgate with vettes" but if there's a will there's a way!

Curt and I would be down on that, a trip to St. Louis for a Card's game or a Ram's game this summer or fall. Sully, just drive up here, stay the night, and the three of us will cruise out to St. Louis to meet with Matt and any other Sharks that are cool with going.

Progress looks great Sully, I really do like those wheel...but that engine needs some paint.
