So I pull up to the gas station this weekend to fill up the Vette. At $3.65 per gallon I am just dazed as the numbers fly by….ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching…..
Next to me pulls up a guy driving a Vespa. He gets off and starts filling his Vespa up. We exchange hellos, and then I said to him, “You know a few years ago I would have laughed at that scooter, but now I kind of envy it.”
He smiled and said, “Yea, I get that reaction a lot now”.
A friend of mine has a motorbike shop, he showed the newest scooter it runs on LPG, has a 4 liter tank and runs for about 100 to 150 km. With the gas prices here €1.50 per liter (x 4.5 for gallon x 1.56 for $ = about 11$ per gallon) and lpg is about €60 cents. I can understand this alternative for transport. No alternative for a Vette. ;-)
I have a vespa 150cc, the classic one...I've modded it (of course ), lightened it, the engine is the famous Pinasco 175cc with a dell'orto 22 open carb and a cute race exhaust...vrooooommmmmmmmmmmmm
Vespa is a living legend, same as the Vette but just with two wheels

I don't want to see the day we get to that point. Price actually $8.85 which is bad enough, only 3.78 liters/gallon.
They are very cool but I commute 68 miles round trip every day and just would never use it on the highways or parkways.
The vette, no matter what the price of gas will always be cool.
Hey Joe, About twice during the warmer ( Summer ? ) weather those Vespa guys have a sort of get together up here in the Beautiful Metropolis of Narrowsburg N.Y. I guess that they camp out at the Landers campgrounds down by the Deleware. It is a pretty amazing & funny sight to see hundreds of those scooters when they come into town for supplies/food/gas/beer/lunch etc. The locals, some of 'em, look nervous. Basically nice guys and girls tho,,,Peace,,,Moosie
Seriously, my DD is a '03 Avalanche. I only live 10 min from work so a tank of gas will usually last me 3 weeks. As for the Corvette, same or better mpg as the Avalanche so it gets driven on good weather days. Both are paid for. I don't need a new car or scooter payment to save less than $100 a month.
When I can no longer afford gas then I may look at a Vespa (but probably end up with Harley instead).

Vespa guys are very good people, they look a bit like the so called 'Pope guys' (those fellows people who follow the Pope and sing at his meetings, well, at least here in Eu)...and when hundreds of vespa's together, rided by young crowds, get into a town buzzing high then... is party time
buy a motorcycle, vespa depending on model gets
55 + MPG.
my motorcycle ( 86 honda magna 700) gets 40-43 back and forth to work and close to 50 on the highway if i cruise at 70, not sure i would want to take a vespa on the highway here in NJ.
If gas prices really bother you, you do have a couple of options:
1. Don't drive so much.
2. Buy oil stocks.
Either of these will offset how much of your money you're spending at the pump. I heard this morning gas might hit $5 a gallon this summer ... still don't care. Unless you drive for a living and no one is reimbursing your mileage, you can choose how much gas you use. Plus in this real estate market, even if the "more expensive" side of town is closer to where you work, it isn't so expensive anymore. I don't understand why anyone drives an hour to work every day and complains about gas prices, it doesn't make any sense. Move closer to work. And before you say "but the houses closer to where I work are more expensive", yeah, maybe they are ... but think about it, if you took some of what you were spending on gas right now and added it to your mortgage, could you afford it then? Most people could. Not to mention the TIME you save, your time has to be worth something too ... wasting two hours a day in the car and sitting in traffic vs. spending 10 minutes a day in the car. Hmm... tough choice.
If 2% of the population did what I'm suggesting, the real estate crisis will be over.
Look at the traffic, you see the same cars every day. People on the east side of town driving to work on the west side and vice versa. What if they just switched houses? Think about it...
