I have a “69” 427 which I spent the winter converting to P/S & P/B.
The 1st. two V-belts off the crank (inside & P/S) line up perfectly. But the alternator belt (goes from the outside P/S pulley groove to the alternator) is off by ½” (needs ½” additional offset). I checked with paragon and they said I have the correct brackets etc.
I measured the offset needed from the alternator fan to the center of the pulley from the
P/S pump. I would need an alternator pulley with 1 - ¾” total offset (1/2” more than the Corvette 427 w P/S & P/B pulley has).
Should I be thinking about shimming the alternator outboard the ½”?
Or, looking at some other pulley? No one seems to know..
I believe the correct alternator bracket is cast iron and bolts to the cylinder head on the left side. Is the alt on the left and the bracket cast? I would start there with the alt bracket as that is a certain constant as only one is correct..
Im sure you thought of this already but couldnt you use a Break bending machine (Big metal Bender )get the off set you need and shim the other end (a tube outside the bolt used as A spacer). It would almost look stock. You might be able to heat up the bracket now and just bend it,in A Big Vise.
please post your results with pictures if possible,
I am starting down the pulley road from a basketcase/parts and peices.
and I too must figure out what I need,
does anyone have a picture of the cast alternator bracket for a 69 ?
thanks, 69VETT
Looks like you have the same pulley I have. Also got it through Paragon. But, it still needs another 1/2". I may resort to shimming the alt bracket but I think this will impact the P/S location and the braces. I'll have to take a look and get pics to display.. By the way, I believe the Cast alternator bracket is listed in catalogs as alternator w/ no P/S. If you go with P/S, you will need the welded bracket. See pg. 22 of the Paragon catalog.
