When I went to install the rear cover on the 74 I noticed that to snug the new bumper against the fiberglass bodyshell would require the tru-flex bumper to bend a little (20 degrees maybe) at the lip of the mating surface if the surfaces are to be flush. I know the bumpers are flexible but I wasn’t sure if I should snug it down far enough for the surfaces to be flush or not. I don’t want to break it.
I have flex fit on the front and back mine fit some what like yours i pulled it in till it was tight then I tightend up the nuts it has stayed looking good no warps .I think you should have no trouble,20 Deg should not make the bumper crack or split Mine are still un-painted after 2 years and they look painted. I very happy with the FF Toledo pro glass.
I am in the process of fitting my new Tru Flex bumpers on my '74 Vette.
I am having similar problems with the fit. My concern with pulling the bumper against the body is that you will build stress into your newly painted bumper and it will eventually crack. This is my first time using this bumper, so I may be all wet.
