Default Tach Bouncing

I did a search but didn't find much. My tach bounces real bad. When I rev the engine, the tach bounces really high then settles down. If I rev it slowly, the bounce is less but still there. The cable is almost new and I have the 90 degree adapter. Is lubrication the problem or is it something else? Thanks in advance!

I was having the same problem with mine until it flat out broke. The cable moved freely when it was disconnected but wouldn't budge when I had it hooked up. Likely you might need a new one soon or a rebuild on the one you have. I've got a mechanical tach drive on mine though. Not sure what year you have, fill out your profile so we can help you out. Mine did this for a few days and then quit. Turns out it was the tach drive gear in the distributor. Lars is working on my distributor right now so hopefully the tach will work again when I put the distributor back in.
