hi ganey! thanks for your reply!i saw a radio/speakers on e-bay at a good price saying that it fits 77-82,sometimes they will fit other years.i guess i will pass this one up ,tho.---john
In earlier model years the radio for a C3 was Corvette specific...it was a separate tuner section and amplifier section. The tuner is what you see attached to the center gauge section and the amplifier section is behind the dash attached to the bulkhead.
GM ultimately dictated that all radios throughout the GM line would be interchangeable (outside of trim badging) for cost cutting measures. After that, all C3's used the standard configuration GM radios, but they weren't interchangeable with previous radios C3's used. Essentially the same thing happened for heat and a/c controls...all GM cars used the same control unit.
With the advent at that time of factory stereos...with 8-track, cassette, CB receivers, etc., it was a sensible move.
thanks roughrider! does this mean that the 77 radio will not fit my 76? sorry, but i am a little slow today.it seems to be a great buy, especially since i need a radio and speakers. is it too big or what?---thanks---john----by the way, time is running out to bid.
