The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Regular isn't as bad (I buy 87 octane for the pickup), but my '07 Tundra 5.7L can hardly be called an economy truck. Although my work commute is only ~ 7 miles, most of the lakes I fish on the weekends are ~ 100+ miles from the house, so the price of fresh crappie has gone up considerably

I'm just wondering how much they will push prices up...from past patterns, they go up,slightly down, then level off...but gas prices have more than doubled since 2002...
I noticed those running for Prez are avocating repealing the gas tax...LIARS...

Last time I filled my GMC Duramax it was $235.00. $4.099/gal
In Australia, we buy petrol and diesel by the litre. One litre is within cooee of a US quart, so four litres is almost one US gallon. The Australian dollar is running about 93 US cents ( AU$1.00 = US$0.93), and we pay AU$1.40 to AU$1.50 per litre in Melbourne.
So, we pay about AU$5.60 to AU$6.00 for a US gallon, roughly about US$5.50 per US gallon. Many of our motorists and about 99% of taxi drivers use LPG, liquefied petroleum gas, which is a butane/propane mixture, and costs about AU$0.60 per litre.
Australia has almost unlimited reserves of LPG and we sell it by the shipload to China for about FIVE CENTS PER LITRE!!! But the tax paying motorist pays twelve times that. Sucks, doesn't it?
I've heard of one Corvette that has had the petrol tank removed and the car runs solely on LPG, but the rest of us run 93 to 97 octane petrol. There is a lot of interest in fitting overdrive gear boxes and/or taller diff ratios and bigger wheels (to a degree) but most of our Corvettes are basically stock.
As to the basic wage, we have it all over you blokes. I'm not sure of the exact figure, but the minimum adult wage is well over AU$10.00 per hour and has been for decades. An average worker gets a reasonable wage and this is why tipping is not common in Australia, except at posh restaurants.
I drive a bus for a living and the rate is over AU$19 per hour for a 40 to 50 hour week. We get time and a half after eight hours work and double time after 11 hours. Saturday morning we get time and a half and from midday Saturday and all Sunday, we get double time. When we work Public Holidays, we get double time and a half (In my case almost AU$50 per hour!) And we have eleven public holidays per year!
At the rate the US dollar is dropping, and the Australian dollar is climbing, many economists are predicting equity before long (i.e. AU$1.00 = US$1.00). That means US Corvette parts will become cheaper for us to buy, so Willcox and Mid America, etc. should expect some extra sales Down Under before long.
I know I've strayed a bit off topic here, but most of you blokes know bugger-all about how we live down here and what conditions are like, so I thought I'd tell you a little. If you want to know more, ask me anything and I'll tell you what I know.
