The model was prepped with wax, then a few coats of PVA mold release were applied.

The PVA was waxed, and then 2 layers of surface coat were applied (gel coat)

The gel coat was covered with 2 layers of fiberglass mat/resin

Here's the MOLD that resulted from taking that splash of the model

The same procedure was followed with the mold. It was waxed, sprayed with PVA, then waxed again. 2 layers of surface coat, 2 layers of glass/resin and here's what came out of the mold. Just needs some trimming and final touches.

Fiberglass part with the openings cut out

Installed in the bezel, ready to paint (hot glued for now. I need to pull it back out soon and glass it in permanently. The hot glue didn't hold up...worked for Cruise In, but that's about it.

Painted and ready to insall:

Have you hooked up the speedo yet? any problems with it?

forgive the mess in there and around the steering column.....i've gotten a little sidetracked with bodywork.

Is your console gage face metal? If so which metal & what gauge? What did you use to cut it with? I've got mine mocked in plexy right now & I wanted to front mount the panel so I could remove it later, if need be, w/o taking everything else apart.

There was a fair amount of work (and some frustration) involved. Never having worked with the particular material made for an interesting time. It would be much easier to do over again. I learned a LOT on how to do it better next time.

First time I have seen this thread. Very nice work. I love the gauge choices. I am going to have to do some gauge work in my car and those are sweet.

I'm really liking them. They're more from the "Hot Rod" side of their catalog I think, but they do a pretty good job of retaining the appearance of a factory gauge. Installation wasn't bad at all, either. No more tach & speedo cables. Working speedo for the first time since I bought the car, and no more bouncy tach.
