Years ago I replaced the distributor on my 1970 and went with a HEI Tach Drive that looks just like the pix - don't know that company but the price is excellent especially with standard interior parts that are easy to replace. Remember going from stock to HEI you will need new spark plug wires. Note that my original distributor was old and worn that's why I replaced but, and since I just drive on weekends, I noticed little difference in performance with the HEI on a properly tuned Vette.

Have you considered having Lars rebuild your original distributor? I sent him mine and it came back looking like new. I dropped it in and the car purs like a kitten now. I think it's the way to go.

I bought the same one several months ago for my 63, fired the car up Memorial day for the first time since I installed the HEI, worked out great. Points are fine but an electronic set up cranks so much easier. By the way I got mine through Depend Auto also.

I just installed that exact unit 2 weeks ago. A VERY tight fit against the electrical box for the wiper motor. Also the tach drive is at a little bit different angle. My tach doesn't work but we probably just didn't get the connection right yet. Haven't had time to check it out yet between work and a long distance car show.

What does he do to the rebuild does he just rebuilds the to original or does he replace internal parts with electronic aftermarket ones?I once installed the ignitor unit in my original distributor before and it left me stranded with no where to buy a replacent right away and had to haul the car home. The reason that I want to go with a unit like this is so as soon as trouble arises I can buy replacent parts at my local auto parts store for it, so long the housing, fit and the center shaft are well made.At the first sign of trouble I guess I would probably replace all the guts, rotor and coil to A/C Delco.

Yours came with the HEI. The 74 and earlier cars did not have HEI, but had points and condenser and a cable driven tach. The 75 and later c3's had an electronic tach so the stock HEI's did not have a place for the tach cable. The HEI with tach drive enables the earlier cars to have the benifit of electronic ignition and still use the original cable driven tach.

I bought the one from JEGS made by PROCOMP for $170.00. It looks the same as the one in your link and works flawlessly! I can't imagine there being more than one or two factories making these things. I bet they are all the same. My motor runs 1000% better than with the old wore out points fired unit and gets much better gas mileage. I am planning to rebuild the old one this winter for experience and just to have it to go with the car.

Default I bought one last month.

Comes with the manual tach drive plug(where the needles from your manual tach drive wire goes into). Very easy to install. Works great.

Just remember you need to run a 10 or 12 gauge wire (with an insulated spade connector Female) from your HEI distributor pigtails to the IGN switch on the fuse panel (where the spade connector plugs into). You can also use the ACC switch (accessories switch on the fuse panel).

The pink wire (its the one cover with some fuzz brown material) from the starter solenoid is not 12v and HEI needs 12v power supply to run your engine with the power it needs. Just cover up the pink wire and put it aside in a safe spot on your engine bay in case you want to change it back to stock.
