After bracket racing for several years I've been sneaking up on an 11 sec pass. This ET was hard to imagine at one time but had become one of my life goals. After running a 12.1, I decided to up the nitrous shot and blow or go. I'll admit I was plenty nervous putting somewhere around a 225-250 shot on top of stock internals. The jolt is somewhat moderated by a progressive controller starting at 50% and ramping to 100% at ~3800 RPM. My drag radials held and I turned an 11.869!
I backed down the jets to a 12 sec combination and finished the event. Goal was obtained but now the age old question, "when is enough enough?". My buddy has a 67 Chevy II big block that runs 11.6s. I sure would like bragging rights. All I need is a little more squeeze.
AF numbers look good. I may be able to manage if I'm carefull. What should I do??
Just curious, doesn't your track make you modify / build a cage when you dip below a 11.99?
I believe those were the old rules. Now you can run down to 11.49.
From the NHRA website:
When do I need a roll bar or roll cage?
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49.
What does is run without the Gas? Oh and I voted to go faster, might as well take it to the 11.5.
Only low 14's. I wanted to keep good street manners but I think I went too mild with Edelbrock cam and head choice. My compression is only about 9/1, which may help keep the motor together.

Cool Let's see 11.50's then! I vote go 'til it blows
I personally think that Drag Racing is an addiction..
When I initially started to race my blue/white '68, my intention was just to get a ET so that I can add it to my sig on the forum.. However, drag racing is very addictive and I wanted to go faster every season..
The car started out running 12.49 @ 113 mph on street tires.. After some weight reduction, slicks and front skinnies, I ran 11.67 @ 119.79 mph with the same setup. Still wanted to go faster and sold the engine (a 465 HP 383) to get a solid roller 406 SBC.. Raced that engine for one season and ran low 11's with the setup. Had it rebuilt and improved to run in the 10's next season. Ran a best of 10.35 @ 127.59 mph on engine and later sprayed a 100 shot and ran 10.07 @ 131.82 mph.. Spun a bearing on that run and rebuilt the engine myself. However, I never re-installed that engine. I had a 434 built instead which catapulted me into the 9's on engine (9.90 @ 136.42 mph) and into mid 9's on a small shot of nitrous.. Should be able to run high 8's once I'll spray the full 250 shot... Once I'll achieve that, the next goal will be mid 8's and maybe even 7's at one point..

You are definitely my hero and inspiration!
The only thing keeping me from immediately following down your path is my lack of a trailer and desire to occasionally drive on the street. The search for a trailer in on, let me know if you see one for ~$1500 even if it needs some work.
Once I have my transportation home covered in case of failure. I will employ the suggested Shoot it till it blows and then build it better plan.
You are so right; the rush of competition and acceleration is a drug that is quite addictive. My standard answer is “At least it’s less destructive than snorting cocaine or smoking crack!”
