Default another stereo help thread

I'm back on the road after an engine and trans build. My wife now calls it the gruble-gruble car and wants tunes when she drives it. I've been pouring over old threads trying to decide on how how to deplete the bank account yet again. I see a lot of validity in the 2 speakers in the kickpanels, amp and sub approach. That is where I think I would like to go. I do like to crank the Metallica, but not anymore than $400-$500 bucks.
I've bought Polk 651s for the front & a faceplate adaptor for the bezel so far.

Here are the questions;
1. I have a 74 vert - not a lot of room for a sub. Does anyone have any options for a "slim" sub that would fit under a folded top?
2. DB has recommended the PowerBass ASA 400.4 amp several times in older posts which seems to be in the price range I like.
3. I haven't bought a head unit yet, but I am going to cut for a 1DIM unit. I am looking for something I can use an I-pod with, but my main concern is being able to read the display without the top on in the sun(that's one of the 2 reasons I bought a vette, open air & tire smoke). Any recommendations would be appreciated.

thanks, Todd

Several manufacturers make slim subs...I personally don't care for them but room dictates different needs for different people.

I still suggest the smaller amp however I believe that was a 2 channel amp and that will only power either the two front speakers OR the sub. Ideally you'll want to power both for a good balance. If you want the amp for the sub only, let me suggest a different amp...just let me know what direction you want to go as far as which speakers you intend to amplify.

This head unit is cheap, excellent quality, and even has the front face USB and slick looks.

I would like to amp both fronts & a sub. If there is an amp better suited, I would welcome your recommendation. This is the first car I done anything sound wise other than a supertuner & a pair of 6x9s

Okay, well here is a good four channel amp that will work great for the front speakers and recommended sub, however it won't fit in the storage bin and would need to be mounted in the back, maybe the back wall or on the floor to one side of the rear.

For even more power...
