Default 77 Review.

Hi everyone...
I am way more familiar with 71 and 72s.
I am looking at a 77 tomorrow.
I didn't get a whole lot more info than in the add.
$7500 for a 77 with nice paint, minus a few chips and scratches.
Interior needs new door panels.
A/C does not work.
Everything else he says is fine.

What should I be looking for?
I know on my Chrome bumpers, I could check the kick panels for rust, which could give tell tale signs of bird cage damage.
Is this still similar???

How much should redoing the AC run?

Were Ralley wheels an option on the 77?

I know alot of memners can tell alot about the car by pictures.
ANY feedback or questions to ask are welcomed.
I will be checking in the AM.
Thanks for the input!

Same rust issues as the earlier models.
Check the kick panels like you mentioned.
Check the birdcage and frame in front of the rear wheels.
Check the rear suspension for wear. Spring, strut rods, trailing arms, wheel bearings, differential end play.....
Check body for prior damage.
Check rubber bumpers for previous repair.
Check body mounts and bushings.

AC could run $200-$600???
Rear suspension could be $1000+
Brakes?
Ujoints?
Steering system?
Steering control valve?

I believe Ralley's where the base and Aluminum where an option.

Paint looks pretty fresh on this car. My concern would be what did they cover up and why, if the paint is fairly new.

Yes rally wheels were standard in 1977. The A/C is hard to tell how much to repair. Looks like the A/C has been opened up before. If I’m looking I also look at the area below the wiper arms. If the car has been hit hard this area is hard to repair and there will be more body overlaps and usually poorly repaired. I look for the usual rust areas. Is motor and transmission original?
What bothers me the most when looking at used cars is a fresh coat of clear paint in the engine compartment as a cover-up!

That rear bumper has been replaced. That spoiler didn't come out until 78 on the pace car. It was not an option in 77.

Thanks for those who replied.
He said small chips and some scratches.
The entire drivers fender was missing paint fromt eh wheelwell forward.
Said the previous owner had someone back into him and there wasnt any damage to the fiberglass, the car just wasnt re-painted properly at that location.

119, 000 miles,.
Not original color, AC not working, Bad door panels, Chips and spider cracks in other section sof paint.
I decided to pass...

I kinda miss my 71 more and more.
I think I will start looking at the Chrome Bumpers again.
