well most of you have been reading that i had some cracking issues with the primer i layed down, yes i know i should have done epoxy 1st but i didnt. i block sanded everywhere that there was a crack. turns out , all the cracking happened over body filler. specifically, in deep sand scratched left by 36 grit paper. i think what happened is i didn't block out all the deep scratches and the primer settled in there and seperated.
i have blocked all that out and put a thin layer of easy sand putty and blocked that out. i have reprimed those areas and they now look fine. i will speak to the dupont rep and try to get his opinion of whats the best sealer to go over this before i shoot the color.
Sounds good,I hope it comes out good and looks purdy, I am stripping mine now and when I hear storys about paint crack in primer I cringe,I am goingto paint mine myself, keep us posted.
WHat year is your vette. You don't want to put any putty or filler over SMC which is what they used in the mid 70's and up. SMC is a light gray marble color substance. If that's what you did, I'd strip it all off and start over. It'll fall off eventually anyway. If it's fiberglass panels you have, then you should be just fine.
it is smc, and there is no way i am stripping anything off, i will take my chances, i have been working on this for a year now. when i stripped this car there were tons of filler from previous repairs and it was all stuck on there good, i dont think i will have any issues
