I have been very keen to replace my auto tranny and put a mustang V8 T5 box into my car for a while now, but my problem is the shipping costs to Perth in Australia. Because the transmission length is too long to be shipped through the US postal service, it can only be shipped through much more expensive services like fedex. I have done a bit of research and found that the easiest way to reduce the length is to remove the input shaft. Is there anyone who has a box for sale and is prepared to remove the input shaft for me or does anyone know of a seller that will be prepared to do this for me. Appreciate any help here.
Neil, Are you not able to get one of these boxes in Australia?
Hi Kerry, from what i have been able to find out the T5's used by Ford and Holden are non world class units, which are not as strong as the world class boxes used on the V8 mustangs, but if you know of a t5 world class used here then let me know.
There's a little bit of work involved in removing the input shaft. How much more expensive is the shipping for the full-length trans vs the shorter trans? Would the assurance of having a complete trans be worth the extra $$ when you may have to pay to have a shop disassemble the trans?
Disassembling the T-5 is a piece of cake. There's a guy on ebay and on several forums that puts out an excellent dvd on the rebuild, worth twice the price. Also, why use a Ford T-5, when a GM world class T-5 is a straight bolt-in?

The last time i tried to buy one on ebay, if it could have come US postal service it would have been about $150 ground shipping, but because of the length it had to be shipped through another company like fedex, which would have been over $500, so to remove the input shaft will save a lot on shipping. i have downloaded a repair manual on the T5 and it seems very easy to remove the input shaft, it is just held in place by the bearing retainer.

The only reason I was looking for a ford V8 T5 was because a lot of people on this forum say that it is a stronger box then the GM one, but even if I can get one of those i would not mind, i have also seem a few GM ones on ebay.
If my T-5 (purchased for all of $95.00) wasn't destined to go into the 65 Mustang (eventually), I'd be willing....
I happen across another at a fair price, I don't think it'd be a problem shipping, Just need the time....
Thank you I would appreciate that so long as its from the V8 mustang.
I have always wanted a 65-66 mustang fastback as well.
