Recently I saw (somewhere) hood strut supports for a c3 hood. Does anyone know who sells them or where they can be located. They are supposed to replace the old hood support mechanism.
If they were mine, I had to make them. The struts themselves were F-body hatch struts and I had to make the upper and lower brackets using various materials I had laying around.

...but why didn't GM use gas struts? maybe the fact that when closed they exert a constant force on your hood, possibly deforming it over time?
I was worried about that when I designed mine, which is why my upper mount is actually tied into the hinge itself, and when the hood is down the strut is perpendicular to the hood, so the bracket again takes all the force off the structure of the hood. It's so effective, when the hood is down, you can drop it to close it from 6" up just like a standard hood. Above 10" and it'll lift itself up.
