Rules about this thread...

1. It will NOT become another thread discussing oil and gas prices. We all know they suck. It doesn't matter who is to blame, it still sucks.

2. This is Corvette related. The Vette is killing me on gas, and therefore is the inspiration for this thread and project.

Anyways...

So I'm thinking about taking on another project. Any pre-1955 Chevy would be really cool. What I want to do is have a worn looking car. I don't care if it's rusty (to a degree) or has horrible paint and pitted chrome. I think that's kinda cool.

What will make this project unique is the drivetrain. What I've been thinking about is putting some sort of very small displacement motor with an overdrive tranny to get great mileage for a daily driver. Horsepower is not an issue. I don't care how slow it is. Nothing bigger than a 6 cylinder, with a 4 being even better.

What I need to know is what kinds of semi-modern motors are available that are not computer controlled and that will not be too terribly difficult to hook up to say a T5 transmission or something similar.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have a '51 Chevy Styleline Deluxe for sale. It does run and is drivable. We were out cruising around in it last night. The body is pretty clean but could use paint and some interior work. It has the original 216 with a Powerglide. Send me a PM if this is what your looking for. I'm asking $4500.

Get an Opel GT, looks like a smaller Vette, and drop in a small cube GM engine like the 3800 or maybe one of the 4 bangers.

Think about a small, inline 4cyl. turbo diesel. Lots of torque, great reliability, and easy on fuel.
