Default Conversion To Sport Mirrors

Well I have purchased the sport mirrors for my 77 Corvette, have had them painted to match, they look great and appear to be ready to go. Any suggestions on instructions for the installation on the left and right sides would be helpful. Before I drill any holes on the right side (mirror virgin on the right side) I wanted to ask the pros, all of you.
Thanks in advance.
Shakey driller.

Just make sure you drill the holes in the correct place, otherwise you will not be able to get the nuts on the retaining studs. There are cutouts on the inside of the door reinforcing so that you can tighten the nuts. Here is the mirror installation from the assembly manual.

Hey David, gotta pick your brain and I know this is a 9 year old thread... how did the install go? Were you able to install the nuts from the inside of the door or did you have to drill a hole in the inside of the panel (where revision 3 and callout #8 is on the drawing sheet 16)? My door don't have that hole and I was wondering if I can install it by reaching in the door before I start drilling. I did not remove the glass yet..I'm just coming up with at game plan.
Thanks
Dennis

In case you don't get a reply, I spent a lot of time getting a solidly mounted mirror. Here's my post

Thanks ignatz. I looked through your pictures and post and I think I got it now. Did you drill a new hole to install the screws or did you come in from the top of the door? And since you used screws instead of the stud with nuts, did you have any problems with it coming loose?
Thanks, Dennis

I did have to drill a new hole to get access. I'll see if I have any more pix. No problems with anything getting loose. Glass clearance was my biggest problem.

Did same on the 6t8, drill holes for access-yes. Also used the studs. It took me about 8 hours per door. T

Thanks Terry....I might go that route and use the studs. I will see once I get the glass out. I just finished putting the dash back together-I may have to start drinking again

delfert76, since it's your car, take studs out have someone hold passenger mirror in place, take a seat behind the wheel and have helper move mirror around until you find optimal rear visibility. It also helps if you can park another car behind yours, and also off to the side at different distances. Take your time and experiment. T
P/S I keep a big bottle of JD handy.
