I don't understand it. When REAL cars were made, all of the styling came from the function of the car. The radical flares and wide tires were so the car could handle better around the track, not so you could say you're "rollin' on dubs". The big hood scoops were for high rise intakes that needed mroe clearance, not so your mundane commuter has something to make it stand out. Lowering a car was to achieve crisper handling, not so you can get the fabled "ricer bounce". Large diameter exhaust was to minimize backpressure to free up power, not to sound like a fat man after a bowl of beans.
Exactly when that very same iussue started happening to human beeings...I'm sincerely sorry to say that many young ricers show plenty but perform little, like their cars.
I think the tuning fashion started for a reason and that reason is that these days 'form' is more important then 'content'.
A few years ago, SPIKE had a "tuner" show on Sunday Mornings. They would interview the car owners and the one guy said he had $30,000 tied up with his interior mods.
They're starting to grow on me over the years. I guess they're wearing me down. I do like some one the cars I see on the street, especially if they have suspension and engine mods.
Here are both my Tvr Griffith 500 and the C3 in the background at the same show where i took the pics of the ricers....
The show just closed and i can frankly say that i'm definitely a dead man!! Too much work to keep the crowds at a safe distance from the cars, specially the vette...it's satin black is sooo damn easy to get footprints on it!!
Two more pics taken when the show was still closed to pubblic on friday evening...(see the post near the left front wheel of the vette...it says 'pls do not touch...fresh paint' )
I still don't get it, these kids buy these ricers and spend tons of cash on them to achieve what stock American cars like a C5 or any LS1 powerd car. The money they put into those little 4 bangers is enough to just go buy something that is already quick. I have a a lot of friends that run these ricers and pour cash into them with minimal results, I am in their agre range at 29 and I get lots of talk from them about my American steele.....yet no one wants a piece of my Buick GN but mainly because it has a large turbo hanging on it. My Vette gets some respect from them because the way it sounds and looks but most of them have zero knowledge of old school muscle.
There are some guys out there with really fast ricers, there is a kid near me with a gutted civic that runs low 10's.....thats great and all but in my book it's just not cool. I would rather own a 14.0 C3 than a 10.0 gutted civic
But hey to each their own.....at least they are doing this to hondas on the mass instead of cars like ours
I know that when I was younger my father would take me to the track and explain it all and get involved with me on my first car.I was given a respect for the machine.Alot of the kids today,(not all)have no business having a car with actual horse power. In my day street racing was taken outside of town and that is where the cops sent us.We were safe as possible with people posted at both ends of the road to watch. It was not prefect but we tried.most of the time we just went to the dragstrip. The kids race anywhere now and have no regards for traffic or anything.I hate to say it but with 1200hp supras running the streets rice is not allway slow either.Street racing was never a good thing but it has got alot worse name now than it did back then.Time has proven to me that kids will customize, hop up,race, and drive anything that they get their hands on.They love the Sion XB's and weird lookin cars now days.I guess I'm just gettin old!Remember when a pair of jenson coaxial speakers were the stuff?
Your black vette is absolutely gorgeous. I'm curious what all is done to it. Are those custom flares or just stuff you can buy. Is it satin black or what? What rims are you running?

I've done quite a lot of custom mods to it...weight dropped to 2.750lbs, new 575hp 406 SB engine, brakes, suspensions, driveline..
Flares are the 4' L88 style you can buy but they need some 'trimming' to fit properly, color is a satin black and rims are custom made in Uk, very lightweight (and quite expensive too...) sizes 11.5x15 rear and 9x15 front, 4'' BS all round.
