Have used Hooker's recommended gasket without issues on several cars.

I've heard some talk about a Fel-Pro set working well too but I don't have a part number.

I like the Mr. Gasket Ultraseals. Carbon with a steel core. No blowouts and don't stick if you need to remove them. Plus, I can get them at Autozone if I need them right now. Never had a blowout with the Hookers which I attribute to the nice thick flanges which prevent warping.

Do you happen to have a part number? I'm always open to trying new gaskets.

I've got Fel-Pro on mine.

Part number 1444.

No problems here.

Is there a gasket that has slots so you can losen the headers and slide the gasket in from the top.

DB,
Sorry, no part number of the top of my head but I usually find them in the rack at Autozone. There are a couple of different ones for SBC's. I get the ones with the larger square port.

All the good gaskets have slots on the end two bolts. Remove all the bolts except those two and loosen them. Drop the gasket in from above and reinstall all the bolts. Easy to do.

Yeah I need the square port for later model heads, and I have to go by Autozone later for some water plugs. I'll stop in and get a set of exhaust gaskets too.

Turbojet, SteveG75 didn't specifically say, but the Mr Gasket Ultra Seals do have the slots on both ends. I wouldn't use any gasket that didnt' have that, they are a lot easier to install with the slots.
