That is why GM is going to bring back the CamAro (note the spelling). This will be the car to compete with the Mustang and Challenger and play the "retro" game. Corvette is a step above playing that game (nothing wrong with Camaros, mind you. I own one myself). It has always been a level above the Camaro in everything: Prestige, power, handling, class, wow-factor, everything.
I agree w/most of what you said but just keepin it real here and with respect and honesty will say that my '68 Camaro draws crowds, causes people to stop what they're doing and scream at the top of their lungs and snaps necks everywhere I go but I just don't see people reacting quite that way with the vettes so as much as I love the vettes and as awesome as they are it looks like the 1st Gen Camaros have taken the "Wow Factor trophy" these days from what I'm seein.
I like the look of the C6. To me, it is instantly recognizable. I hope they continue to keep it modern and up-to-date, without looking to the past for inspiration. I don't want to see a bunch of C3 wanna-bes on the road.
I like the fact that when I'm out in the '68, it's instantly recognizable to the masses as a classic. They may not know exactly what year it is, but they know it's an oldie but goodie.
I also love the lines of the C6 and that's why I bought an '07 coupe. It was the first vettes since the c3's that really evoked a very basic response in my gut. I had to have one!
I know most folks think the C4's are really blah (and from a styling perspective, they probably are the blandest of them all) but that's fine. When I want to drive a 26 MPG smooth riding and great handling daily driver and be a lot more incognito than in the '68 or '07...I hop into my '93 Ruby anniversary and have a very nice drive.
They are all vette's and that's just fine with me!
From: Graceland in a Not Correctly Restored Stingray
IMHO the '84-91 C4's had too many shortcomings, particularly that early Fisher/Price dash, which kept me on the sidelines until '92 when I broke down and placed an order for a 6-speed vert. However, I always considered C4 styling as not quite completed, hence the aftermarket bodywork was already on hand before I even took delivery...
...had second thoughts for about an hour, then proceeded with the mods, and never regretted committing to them.
The C4 was when the guys at GM said "Lets try to figure out how to make cars fast again in spite of these damn government fuel standards. Forget about what it looks like."

Not only fast but let's make a car tht will handle like it's on rails from the factory. We'll get to the styling part the next time around.
