I saw a T-shirt once that stated, "My lug nuts require more torque than your Honda makes"... been a bad week....

I never used a torque wrench on any wheel. I tighten using a spinner bar as tight as I can get them, which is probably around 80-90 ft/lb

I've been doing it that way for over thirty years and haven't lost a wheel yet........, "yet" being the operative word since I'm getting older and I'm not as strong as I use to be.......

Thats ok for steel wheels I guess if it suits you but I have seen people break mag's like that. I torque to 85ft/lbs with my TT_D's perAmerican Racing recommendation. That way there is no question.

I also liked the comparison to the Honda - good one. But what kinda sucks is that there are actually some pretty fast Hondas out there these days that can whoop-up. I just hope I don't every get lined up against one of 'em and suffer the embarrasment like I've seen happen to a lot of stout muscle cars at our strip. Well at least I could still walk away with the gratification that my car doesn't sound like a leaf blower with a hole in the muffler and actually looks cool.

Well I'm glad I asked about the wheel TQ cause I had called one of the sponsors on here (won't point fingers though) whose tech person told me to TQ to 65ft.lbs - obviuosly not good enough.

Before a NCCC race the tech session calls for 90 LBs.

Default lug nuts

I used to always a ratchet the I noticed they were too tight ,being aluminium so I started to torque them 95lbs cause I used an extension , it just saves damaging the wheel!

What about with an impact wrench? I find myself using that to put them on/off and then after words, I do the hand tighten method just to give myself more peace of mind.

Using an impact wrench is ok, however only install them with a gentle trigger. You should hand torque them afterwards (the torque wrench should do the final tightening), but if the wrench just clicks, you've tightened the nuts too much with the gun.
