Hi,
I got my 2 1/2" end to end exhaust system from Corvette Central yesterday. Turns out that the outlet of the 2 1/2" MAGNAFLOW MUFFLER is only 2 inches.
Did I get the wrong part? Or are mufflers on all 2 1/2" systems always 2 inches?
I feel that the 2 inch outlet defies the purpose of getting a 2 1/2 inch system.
Mine was also the same way. The tips are 2" that is why they go to 2".
I think it was so they would make the same tip for what ever system it had. Also, do not quote me I am probably wrong, but I think the 73 big block systems were 2 1/2 to 2 1/2. The only problem is I think the muffler exit is different. I know for sure the tip is different that 70 to 72.
I am slightly miffed about the fact that I was told that it was an end to end 2 1/2" system by two representatives that I talked to and their product description also says that the system has a 2 1/2" mufflers.
I just bought a set of universal magna's 2 1/2 in and out to replace my current flowblaster delta 50's which sound like poo-poo below 2500rpm. I bought stainless mufflers but have aluminized pipe's and coated headers. After reading this thread I hope I don't introduce any heat issues but with the mufflers in the back I think I should be safe. I plan to get them installed this week so we'll see.
Megaflows are universal mufflers and you should have specified what size outlet you wanted. However merely send them back and exchange them for the outlet you want as long as you have not used them...
I think that this system is just average. The bends are so crappy that they are very restrictive at some points.
You get what you pay for
Now that you have their system in hand let me ask you cause I'm in need of a exhaust would you hold out for a mandrel bend system if you knew what it looked like before you bought it or would you just have rather bought a stock replacement with all hardware from VV for 50 less ? help me make the decission

I also had some issues with the end to end system I got from Ecklers. The guy who welded it together was cussing it all day long because some bends weren't tru e etc but I had no restriction problems tho. He did eventually get it tucked up in there nice. He told he could have made it better himself from scratch and I believe him. If you have someone who has the proper bending equipment and skill local you may want to consider that avenue. If I had to do it again I would.

If knew what I was going to get, I would have gone for a mandrel bent system.

The only reason why I ordered the system was that I could install it myself. I got a quote from a local shop to build an end to end mandrel bent system with flowmaster mufflers for $900.
Enough said I guess I have to drive into the bronx Theres a few shops there with Mendral bening machines
I dont think they will have mandrill bends. It really takes a special machine to preform that type of bend. We Have a 'Ben Persion' bender that covers up to and through 3 in. bends. Nothing wrong with these machines, they do excellent bending. We do have mandrill bends available but all but a few Vettes really need them. Most of the time they are on show and race cars. Very neat by looks and performance when correctly used. We just did a 33 Willis with a new Hemi in Mandrill bent stainless. Mucho dinero. ..

I think you right though IC for a regular street car and for what they want to bend a system $$ wise. I hate options man I just throwing on bullsh** cans and holding out till I can afford side pipes.
They claim to be the only muffler shop in NY able to perform mandrill bends. They can handle your job. Expensive GD machine...Could be very pricey, worth a call to find out . ..

You could keep the 2 inch tips and have a muffler shop put a balance tube between the head pipes and this might increase flow more than having 2 1/2" tips and it would look correct from the rear.

Heck, the entire 1969 exhaust system is 2 inch, I guess for noise reduction.

2 1/2" to 2 1/4" for 1973. You can also cut the 2 inch tubes out of the 70-72 tip and weld a 2 1/2" pipe inside and it looks stock unless you really look but yeah, different tips on a 68-69. Does anybody make chrome or stainless 2 1/2" 68-69 tips?
