I am trying to figure out which wires go where on the alternator plug. Here is what I have:
On the alternator it's stamped F & R right above the plug
The pig tale is a replacement but will only go on one way and the wires on it are brown and red. Probably trivial, but I hope this helps explain my confusion.
The pig tale will only go in one way so the red wire goes to the F and the brown goes to the R.
Okay at this point the alternator is not wired to the car and I want to connect the wire correctly.
On the 72 there are two wires, that I verified with the wire map from lectric limited that go to the alternator. Those wires are Brown and Black w/ white strip.
Now the question is - Which of the original wires Brown and Black w/strip connect to the Red and Brown on the pig tale?
I'm concerned about connecting them backwards if that is possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?
You're missing some wires. There should be two additional red wires...a large gauge red wire that has a ring terminal that goes to the BAT lug on the back of the alternator, and another red wire that connects to the plug's red wire. The brown goes to brown, and that black should get a ring terminal and bolt to the car of the alternator.
That last reply, did not make any sense at all. The person, just wanted to know, where the brown wire, and the black/white wire hooks up to the two prongs on the generator,...(period).....well!!
