I have a 78 Silver Anniversary. I am thinking about starting to redo the interior and was all set to buy carpet from Willcox when I noticed that the color I was about to order doesn't match what is currently in the car. My trim code is 122 which indicates that I have an Oyster interior with leather seats. I did a search on the forum and found a couple of pictures of other cars with oyster interior and mine and these do not match Not only is the carpet color different I have the cloth seats and not leather that the trim code indicates!! The oyster color carpet I have seen is almost grey where mine is almost white.
I can't find this color carpet on Willcox for a 1978. Take a look and let me know what you think.
I'm guessing someone put in their own custom carpet because those are not the cloth seats that came in the car. The standard cloth seats didn't look anything like that in both my '79s and I'm pretty sure they were the same in '78

I agree. Before I read your note, I concluded someone redid the interior but deviated from original colors and materials. Oyster is white, slightly off color but those seats are way off. Carpet looks to fluffy, perhaps too thick. Factory carpet lays flat while the photos make it look thick and fluffy.
The door handle bezels (interior) are a different shade from the armrests but should be the same tone but than the bezels differ in tone from the door panel as well. BTW, if seats were cloth, than the vinyl portion of the door panel would be cloth as well.
Look to find an original part of your interior such as the coat hook or the seatbelt covers (attach to the inboard side of the seat). Match replacement with what you know is original (or near original) color. The armrests, console cover, coat hook and seatbelt cover are same color and tone while leather may have some color tone deviation from the vinyl.
My suggestion, study original 78 Osyter interiors before proceeding and get a good mental fix on the color and tone. Wilcox is a pretty good guy and was straight up with me about his interior colors for Pace Car. He'll send carpet samples of what he's got and I believe he'll work with you. Keep us posted and hope this helps.
Thanks guys,
I was afraid the seats were not original because 1. I had never seen that style of seat before and could not find a replacement cover to match 2. The trim code says the seats should be leather.
Now to the carpet. What has me confused is that the carpet matches the carpet in the door panels. Unless the door panels were modified or the original carpet was dyed I assume that is the original carpet. Problem is I cannot find that color. Below is a picture I found here on the forum of another car with oyster interior. You can see a drastic difference between his oyster carpet and mine. I was about to buy carpet when I saw the color difference. Any thoughts?
Only the 78 Pace Cars got the split back bucket seats. All other 78s including the B2Z cars got the regular high back buckets. Your seats appear to be the correct high back buckets. They are, of course, currently in cloth and not leather.
Here is the original interior in my 78. Note that some 78's did come with a cloth insert on the seats which yours resembles. I can't locate a picture of it right now, but if the code is for leather, this is what it should look like (plus 25 years of fading).
