Hi Guys...
Hey I'm a C4 guy who is looking to find a C3 to restore....I need to know how to read the body assembly date off the trim tag. What is the "code" for the letter dates I was told by a friend it was A B C, month 123 skipping I and so forth....now I'm looking at a 69 that is
N13. I am looking for a numbers matching car...all the way through so the body assy date is important.
I someone will chime in, I've searched around a bit...
The date on the trim tag is probably not the body assembly date. The body would have been assembled and painted possibly the day before, maybe longer. The Time/Build date code on the trim tag is the date when the Corvette reached the point on the assembly line where the trim tag was attached to the body. The car would have been painted and partial assembly had begun, but the car would not have been finished and would have required another day, possibly day and a half to be completed. Throw in a holiday or a weekend or any other event when the line was not running and the time period stretches a bit.
Regardless, the Time/Build date is the closest we can get to an actual birthday for the car. 9/13/69 was a Saturday and confirms the line was running on that Saturday. My '69 has a Saturday time/build date.
