Default g-tech pro accelerometer

I'd always wanted to dyno my car, but down here in argentina shops that have a decent dyno are hard to find. So looking for other ways to dyno the car I've seen the g-tch accelerometer that gives read out of hp, 0-60 , 1/4 ml, turning g etc. Had anyone try one of these things? are they word paying 200 buck? any feedback will be higly appreciated!!!

I have one of these. I haven't used it in a long time, but it was a really fun toy. It did pretty well gathering data, but it is going to have some error factor since it is calculating everything based off an accelerometer. It estimates 0-60, quarter mile, etc base on g-forces and information you program it with (like the weight of your car.)

They work great but I wouldn't put much faith in the horsepower feature. Unlike a dyno the g tech factors in wind resistance so the readings are a lot lower than a dyno.

The only reason you need to program in the weight of the car is for the horsepower feature. For the 0-60, 1/4 mile times just calibrate and its ready to go! They are very accurate but the speed at the end of the 1/4 mile will read a bit high due to the way it calculates the speed.

It points out all of this in the instruction book. Also, if you get the better model you can download everything to a computer for review of all kinds of info from the runs.

I've tested about 25 cars with my "basic" G-tech.

I think it is great. Car and Driver tested the older basic one and it was EXTREMELY accurate for 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

I think that the g-tech is fine for HP giving MORE accurate numbers than most dynos. I had my engine professionally dynoed and it yielded inflated numbers. Most dyno operators give their customers the big numbers they want to see. The g-tech is calibrated by flipping it vertically to sense exactly 1 G.

Wind resistance is pretty minimal in first gear so, unless you can't floor it in 1st due to insufficient traction you will get good numbers provided you avoid loaded shifts where you measure flywheel or torque converter effects.
