Rear chunck

I have a friend, Jerry, who wants to upgrade from his 3:05 gears but doesn't have a lot of money to spend.
He was told it would cost him $1,000 to buy the gears and have his rear set up with them.
Thought I'd see what's out there for him.
Thanks,
Glenn

I was just doing a favor for a fellow local Vette owner.
I don't want to put that kind of time into doing a bunch of calls etc, plus I don't have answers for questions they may have for him.
I was just hopeing I could get a few prices and direction for him to check out.
From the poor response to this thread, guess there isn't much out here in used center sections being offered for sale.
You'd think with the economy the way it is that more people would be interested in turning some quick cash for spare parts laying around. Glenn
a 411 GM gear will require a 4 series case. They're out there, the 4 series case has become just about obsolete since you can only run the 411 456 488 gears on them.
The aftermarket Tom's gears can be had in 411 433 456 to fit a 3 series case which in the common case in most vettes.
Getting a new R&P and overhaul for $500 is a long shot, maybe if you find a guy to do it for a couple of hundred and the parts are supplied. I sure wouldn't do it for that.
Parts are expensive and to go into one of these without using a master kit is a mistake, so parts can easily go over $1000, if you need a new case it's even more.
Be cautious with a used diff, especially one in the 370-411 range as they usually have been hammered hard.
