Just bought my first Vette! I found a deal on this 81 with a 383 Jasper in it. The motor has only a couple thousand miles on it and runs great. The side pipes sound awesome... hooker chrome headers into the sidepipes.... New paint last year,new seats (c4 I think), door panels, etc. The paint is very very nice. It needs minor work but nothing I can't handle. Only things like the speedo not working, power locks, remote mirror.

My major concern is too much power (if there is such a thing) I havent determined which class motor it is yet for sure but I think its a class 2, 380 hp. Its got a Holley 750 double pumper on it. Maybe a downgrade to a 650 single may help. It has stock rear end gears so maybe the mpg wont be too bad if I keep my foot out of it.

Just thought I would share!!

Congrats, Living in Cali that thing would never of passed a smog test for registration. It was my understanding NY followed californias program if not more power to you.

p.s. no such thing as to much power now not enough brakes i can believe........good luck with it.

Thanks, but its more the fuel mileage than too much power as they are directly related..... I've been looking for quite some time and was pretty set on a c4 but this was too good of a deal to pass up.

Here is a quote from the DMV website for NY:

Some vehicles are exempt from the emissions inspection program: Your passenger car or light truck does not have to be inspected for emissions if it is:

* Less than two model years old;
* 26 model years old or older;
* Registered with historical plates; or,
* Electric-powered only.

So since its an 81 its 28 years old and exempt from emissions testing. Even on eligible cars there is no sniffer where I am. They do hook up to a computer and check for codes and whatnot but no actual gas reading is done here yet.

If gas mileage is your goal, you have the wrong car, not the wrong carburetor. A C4 would be better on gas.
