We have rebuilt a 1976 corvette, 350 auto. Brand new every thing. We have not driven it yet, just recently started it for the first time. When it idles it sucks about a gallon of gas in about 5 minutes of idling. Would being off on our timing by a tooth have this much effect? That's way too much isn't it?? What's the deal?

p.s. if it helps we are also suffering from the car over heating in about 10 minutes. I have posted this problem on another thread. Our timing is off a tooth and we are going to fix that tomorrow.

Yeah get your timing dead on, and run it. I would clean the plugs before you start it again, so you can accurately read them after it's started with the new timing. Reading the plugs will tell you a lot about the mixture.

funny... i know it's a gas hog already with a v8, but a gallon in idle for only 5 mins. That's way too much!

Not sure what the "cam-breakin" procedure is? Maybe we did it already, called something else though??
