Who"s Rebuilding Your Carb Now that Lars is Retired???
Now that Lars is no longer rebuilding carburetors who are forum members recommending. Anyone had any experience with the Carb Junky's in NJ or The Carb Shop--Mike Riley in California, or the Holley Custom Carb Shop in Bowling Green, Ky or anyone else. I know who to recommend for TI systems, AIR systems, TA's, gearboxes, but not carburetors--always recommended Lars. Please put who you use/used, what you had done, and were you happy with the results. Also did they put the finished carb on a real motor to set it before returning. Thanks in advance.

That does it, I'm converting to fuel injection! Actually, I was going to convert to fuel injection at some point anyway but had intended to have Lars tune my carb just to get me by until then. Lars retiring is good enough reason to just do away with carbs altogether.
Good luck Lars and thanks for all you do for this forum!

HONEST opinion from a olde tyme hotrodder from the daze of a WCFB on a '60 vette 283 through a late DPFI system....
do the latter for a street driven car that is ENJOYED....
Carbs are a thing of the past....do your shark a favor and update the engine, at least.....go from 12 or so to 24 mpg....
and increase performance, driveability, etc....
your choice.....

How about Henry at Olescarb? He helps a lot of guys on the forum with their carb problems and seems very knowledgeable.

Changing jets or squirters is about the extent of the knowledge out there now and that's not going to do much.
When you start getting into emulsion bleeds, air bleeds, pvcr's etc etc. Couple that kind of knowlege with an LM-1 wideband that lets you "see" what is going on and I was able to get 24mpg on the highway @ 80mph with my 550HP small block. The 5 speed OD tranny helped but the properly tuned carb is the key

You can buy books by Doug Roe or Cliff Ruggles and do it yourself. Then when you need tips or advice, Lars is still on here, so just ask him. Or just send your carb to Cliff. That's what I did with the Q Jet for my Pontiac 400. The only negative is that Cliff takes six months to do his magic.

When did Lars announce he was retiring from Carb rebuilds?
I just checked through his recent posts and didn't see anything to that effect.
I know about a year ago he took a break for a while because he was rebuilding his test motor but than he started his rebuild services again when the motor was completed.

Yes, about 15 years ago, L48 engine Muncie car...went from 12 average mpg to 18+ mpg around town, and 24 on the freeway....336 rear....and '92 vette wheels/tires....L98 stock setup
but about 11 years ago I went over to a complete '89 truck block roller motor, now has L98 heads and a modded up LT1 intake on it....same speed density 1227730 computer/chip....with o/drive auto still get 24 on freeway....IF I keep my foot out of it.....
it's mildly cammed up smooth idle at 850 rpm....wish the cam was milder, actually....I have a 200 4r auto....see pix on site....
OOPS, not been to my own site in a while, I see the pix are quite old, and so the induction is indeed a LT1 at this point....I need update that.....

I had mine done by the Holley rebuild shop. It was when Lars was on hiatis. But I also wanted a restoration with new color and such. They did a good job and it runs great, expensive though.
When Lars was here for the tuning for beer, I think he said they did a decent job because all he did was change a spring, I think.

I was about to send mine to Lars when he posted that he was injured and wasn't working on them for a while. Then I got busy getting my house ready to sell and recently moved. But now that I'm done moving I contact Lars and find out he's no longer rebuilding them. Time to swap back to the Edelbrock intake and carb.
Timing is what prevented my carb from being rebuilt, but to Lars for helping so many forum members over the years.

Someone else posted he was retiring. I emailed him because I was going to send him my carb and got a response--not doing anymore carbs as of July 1. Said he wanted to built engines and do what he wanted. I thought great for him.

I do them myself, did them for a lot of years in the army we had a fleet of chev trucks and they all had them , the book from Doug Roe is very good , get a scrap one and play with it , they are not hard to learn ,I'm not an expert but I know they are easy to learn! I used to take them apart on my lunch hour ,just to learn about them! What else do you do on a rainy night when your car is already polished!!!!!!! Ron
