Default New Rear Spring!!!

Got tired of the constant lean of 1 1/2 inches on the rear of the car.
After all the adjusting and different rear bolts, shocks etc I finally broke down and purchased a new TRW 340 rate rear spring.

WOW!!! Did I mention WOW!

Car sits level, up two inches in the rear and excellent ride.

Best investment and upgrade I ever made to the car! NO MORE LEAN!!!

Congrats on the successful upgrade! I made the jump last fall and never looked back. I used a VBP 355lb spring and it definitely made a difference compared to that old steel spring.

Your experience with the new rear spring sounds exciting. I am contemplating updating me rear spring. Did you have to change your rear shocks. I have new Monroe gas shocks. Will they work with the TRW spring? Also would you recommend the 340 lb. for normal around town driving?

The mono springs need a special rear gas shock for the higher spring rates. I used the GR-2 that VBP sells specifically for these springs. They are adequate for a car that will be cruised. If you want more of a performance ride you need to go with Bilstiens or better.

Mine is just a daily driver, I upgraded 'cause it was just the right time.
I have Bilstiens on the rear and am very happy with the overall package.

Did y'all put the guard between the spring and the exhaust to protect the spring from the heat, and if so where did you get it?

Not sure what you're getting at there..... All the spring upgrade does is make the car ride better. The GR-2 shocks and a 355lb VBP spring made a big difference in the ride with my 76. It has a 'very' slight bounce when hitting bumps. Nothing obnoxious but rides great. If you want a sportier/stiffer ride alot of forum members who upgraded went with the Bilstien shocks or better.

I used the factory shield that bolts to the strut rod bracket as well as a pair of aluminized fiberglass cloth clamp-ons to each exhaust pipe where they cross under the spring on either side. think I got the 12" ones from Summit. I figured better safe than sorry.....

i dont have any heat shields on my 69. im just going to buy some high temp header wrap and wrap the spring, and maybe the exhaust right under it.
