Default drive shaft question

whats goin on everyone...?

quick question, was removing my drive shaft off my tranny and my u-joint fell part and needle bearings went all over.

now can i get replacement u-joints for the drive shaft, or is whole new drive shaft required. the reason i ask is because the u-jonts look pressed in, or is that just a cap i can remove to get the old u-joints out and replace them with the new ones.

thanks

steve

Hi Steve,

You don't have to buy a complete new driveshaft. You can get the universal joints on their own.

I recently dismantled my driveshaft and I took photos of each step and added it to my body-off resto thread on the UK forums:

Hope that will help give you an idea of what's involved. It's not too hard to do if you've got a decent vise.

ONLY buy Spicer brand u-joints. You Probably only can find them at a drive shaft shop, but the quality and tolerances are much better than anything from Neapco, Precision, or anything else at pep boys, parts america etc. While you are at the drive shaft shop buying the joints you can probably get them to do the install for you around $10 each. Money will spent to keep from tweaking the yokes!
