I've got a set of 15x8 Kelsey Hayes 14008687 aluminum wheels that I believe are from a 78 vette. Are these original wheels and what years were they used on? They are in excellent condition with no curb scratches and one new tire and the other 3 about 30-60% left. How much would you estimate that they are worth?? See pictures below.
The first time these wheels were polished by the factory was on the '78 Pace Car wheel. Before that they were bare aluminum, although some have said theirs had clear coat on them. My '77 left the factory with just a bare finish and one of the first things I did to it was hand polish them.
I have polished every set of these wheels I've owned since then...
Some of the early ones were painted inside of the slots...
The backside of the wheels also had a portion of them painted black as well...
Thanks for all the replies. The wheels I have DO NOT have a polished finish, but do have the black painted lug centers. There is not any black paint on the inside or in the slots?? Of course, who knows what was done to them over their lifetime, but they definately were never polished. Those polished ones you have sure do look nice. I may have to get out my Mother's aluminum polish and shine those babies up!!
Any more thoughts on the correct applications?? Maybe 77 down to ??
They are correct for the 76-79 style as stated above. The wheels should be unpolished, the lug centers should be black and the slots should be upainted, all exactly as yours are.
