I don't want to reinvent the wheel and I know I'm not the first to encounter this...
I have the fixed mast antenna on my '70. It makes it difficult to put on a car cover. Is there a retractable antenna available? I guess the other option is a power antenna, but I'd rather not go there. I don't use the radio much, I'd rather listen to the engine
im in the middle of prepping for new paint and I am glassing in the old ant hole and the luggage rack holes. Im going to install a hidden ant under the back deck where it is not seen at all.... just another option you might think of...
my cover came with a small donut style patch, that stuck on where i put a slit for the antenna. When i put the cover on i start at the drivers side rear, where the antenna is slide antenna thru slit and put cover. have done this with my othere cars with antennas. no problems
Since I have chambered pipes on my '69 big block, I mostly listen to the motor also. Since I don't use the radio, I just unscrewed the antenna and leave it in the garage. Put a little silicone sealer in the old antenna hole to keep out moisture. Also, kids cannot break it off that way.
I tried unscrewing it, but it seems to have welded itself together. Anyone have pics of how it comes apart? I agree, unscrewing it would be a simple solution.
Just unscrew the very top of the antenna - you might have to use two wrenches because it is stuck over time. When I go for a ride a just hand tighten so it's easy to get off.
PS- that antenna is for AM Radio as are all the engine shields - don't need any of that stuff for FM radio.
why not just take it off when you put the cover on and put it back when you take it off??
That's what I did for the first couple months after I got a cover. After a while, when I unscrewed it I'd sit it on my luggage rack. It didn't take long until I forgot to put in back in and lost it somewhere...

Call the guys you got your cover from. I called the cover maker after about a month and they sent my an envelope with about 4 of the little plastic inside/outside pieces that clip on your cover where the antenna is. I suggest burning a hole with a cigarette, then install the little clip.
I've got a spare one, if you want it. PM me your mailing address and I'll throw it in an eveolope for you. C.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
