Brake thumping

Brake thumping
I have a 76 vette, when applying the brakes it makes a thumping sound in the right rear, any ideas? It doesn't seem to do it all the time. As soon as you release the pedal it stops. I'm getting ready to grease the rear wheel bearings is there anything I should be checking in the rear brake system?

When you inspect look for a shiney spot on the rotor which would indicate a work hardened area in the steel. That would create a thumping effect as the brake is applied and the pad passes over that area. Mostly noticable on front wheels, but anything's possible.

You might want to check the pad to make sure it didnt seperate. If it does the pad will float back and forth when the brakes are engaged. I had that happen on my front left and made a thunk when I applied the brakes.

I pulled the wheels off and inspected the brakes and found the rear calipers both have a piston that is just starting to do some leaking. I believe I'll start there. Thanks again for the interest. I hope I can return the favor.
