Default Gas Prices Dropping?

I just gassed up the '79 here in South Jersey on the way to cruise event. The cash price was 3.78 for regular...

Are we starting to get some downward movement? Actually, I never paid more than 3.94 in this area, and thats for full serve.

full serve, havent heard that in a long time. everything here is self serv. they do seem to be going down a bit. but with pending tropical storms entering in the gulf, they'll probably speculate it right back up.

I was able to find 4.17 a gallon today, cash only, no credits cards self serve. Some stations are charging 10 cents a gallon more for credit cards. Eastern L.I. in the Hamptons is still 4.45 a gallon. I think the drop is only temporary because people are driving less. They lower the price so people will drive more again and then the price will go right back up again. It's all a bunch of

You can pay me. If you don't like the subject of the post, just don't read it.

Don't know about that, but I've seen vids on static igniting the pump nozzle when put into the tank. Generally seems to happen in cold weather and the person gets in the car and out again to keep warm while the gas is pumping.
Someone sells a small device you touch your car w/ before you insert the pump, supposedly it grounds out and disipates the static charge.

I googled the question and this is what I found:

Thursday July 15, 2004 Previous | Next

Dear Yahoo!:
Why is it illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey?

The Garden State is one of two states where it's illegal to fill 'er up yourself. Only gas station owners or employees can pump gas in New Jersey and Oregon -- "the only two states atavistic, sadistic, and masochistic enough to still require thousands of 'professionals' to waste time, money, and inconvenience customers," according to one columnist.
The ban on self-service gas stations is a highly combustible issue and makes for some heated debates. New Jersey passed the law making it illegal to pump your own gas in 1949. At the time, legislators felt it was too dangerous to have untrained people dispensing such a flammable liquid.

That may have been sensible at the time, but pumping gas is much safer today, and some motorists feel the ban is outdated and needs to go. Opponents of the law argue that removing it would lower the cost of gas and make refueling much quicker and more convenient. Proponents of the ban argue that it creates jobs and customers like full service.

Whatever your position on the matter, next time you're in Jersey and need to refuel, take the opportunity to relax in the comfort of your car while the gas station attendant does the dirty work.

Hope this helps ?
Peace,,,Moosie

That's the one of the reasons I hate going to Jersey. I don't like anybody touchin my stuff.

I went down to Middleburg Friday night to look at a 73, and there was a BJ's Wholesale Club with gas at $3.76 (the stations by my house are $4.19).

For more background on possible recent changes to the NJ pumping laws, Look here.

Default Don't complain!

G'day,
You guys should stop your whinging about fuel prices, as you have some of the cheapest petrol/gasoline in the world. One US gallon is about 4.0 litres, so let's all convert to litres for the comparison.

In Melbourne, Australia, our petrol prices are based on the price out of Singapore ( or that's what they tell us!!!) and we pay about AU$1.60 for 93 octane unleaded per litre and the AU$1.00 is worth about US$0.95, so we're paying about US$1.52 per litre. My boss just got back from a holiday in Europe, and tells me that petrol there ( in June 2008 ) is about AU$2.60 per litre, or about US$2.47 per litre.

That's around TEN US dollars per US gallon. So please, don't complain about your fuel prices until they get up around six dollars per gallon. Then you'll know how we ( in Australia ) feel. When it gets to ten dollars per gallon, you'll know how our European friends feel.

So, until your fuel prices are around double what they are now, can you please lay off on these petrol pricing threads????

Regards from Down Under
