I am looking at a 73 4-speed. The seller says it's not the original motor, but it's a 1973 Chevy 350. I don't care too much about the collector value of a numbers-matching engine, but I do want to know what is in there before I buy it.
The numbers he sent me off the engine are 12(z?)9518039 v0329 CKW.
So according to This page, if it's true it's a 1973, then this was originally not a corvette engine, right? Or it could be a 1976 L-48? I am not finding much to go on with the longer group of digits.
If it isn't the engine that was in the car originally, then it does not really matter (other than the fact that it runs well). The last handful of numbers in the stamp should match the last handful of numbers in the VIN (I think it's 6 numbers).
If it does not match - it has been replaced at some point in time.
