I want to apply a coating on my header since they have a lot of scratches, burned marks etc. They were already coated at factory so I don't want to go through the cost and trouble of having them professionally done again. Is there a POR 15 or other coating available that is fairly inexpensive that I can apply myself to have the same results. I really don't want to strip them, just apply another coat overtop.
My experience with POR 20 was less than stellar so I googled POR 20 problems and found very similar results. I ended up painting with VHT and they still look like the day I painted them.

So far it seems that VHT seems to the the coating of choice due to the so called POR 20 problems. Do you have more info on it, such as who sells it and extimate pricing?

You can buy VHT paints at Canadian Tire, as well as Karbelt and Performance Improvements.
Yes CT has VHT. Any special procedure required to apply it? Since the headers won't fit in the oven I was going to wait for the next hot, sunny day and leave them in the sun to dry.

Is VHT (very high temperature?) coating just a paint? I have the jet hot coating on my headers and there are trouble spots brewing where stones have chipped them. I would love to somehow protect thiem from further damage.

Yes it's paint. Supposed to withstand temperatures well beyond what engine paint can take.
Based on the topic of this thread it would appear that VHT seems to be the best choice so far. Does anyone have any other suggestions such as a paint or coating that they have tried and truly liked?
Frank, if you really want to do a good job that will last, and don't want to pay for a ceramic coating, then you will have to strip the headers and apply a quality high heat paint. VHT and Duplicolor make good high heat paints, both are available at Canadian Tire, but they have a better selection of the Duplicolor line:
They mention to bake the headers at 300 d for 2 hrs. well I've got to tell ya, 1st off they wouldn't fit in my oven, 2ndly if they did, Cathy would have me sleeping in the shed if I got caught.
I did notice that the duplicolor is good till 1200 and the VHT is good till 1500 d.

Speaking of sheds...I think I'll wait for the next 30+ degree day and bake them on the roof. Unless I can talk Dominoes into letting me use their pizza oven.
You can use infrared lamps to bake them too, a body panel lamp works pretty good as well. An option to baking is to cure on the car per VHT. Run until they just start to show a sign of smoke and shut the engine off and let cool down and repeat several times. Also spray the pipes when they are heated to about 90 degrees. Use a propane torch to heat them up from the inside and an temp gun to watch the temperature.
