Today I came to a stop for opposing traffic and after it cleared I turned left. As i did this I heard a popping noise that seemed rear suspension related...anyone else experience this?
posi chatter, typical when turning a corner. Change the oil, use Lucas 85-140 and 2 (4 oz)bottles of GM additive. If that doesn't solve it then you either live with it or custom build the posi to eliminate it.

Thats the problem on mine. Only happens when turning under 5 miles per hour
Never hurts to have fresh fluid with the posi additive to keep the parts freed up. One other thing to check may be the rubber bumper that is located on the differential bracket below the back U-joint on the driveshaft. If the rubber bushing deteriorates, the torque from taking off will cause the differential bracket to rotate and hit the frame bracket the bushing is usually sandwiched between. Makes a nice "clunking" noise, and worried me pretty good until I found the problem on mine.
It's an easy fix. A new rubber bumper can be installed with all the brackets left in place. You will need some type of pry bar to get the brackets apart enough to slide in the rubber bushing. Bolt it up and you are good to go.
I agree it sounds like it's time to change the rear end fluid. Certainly is the easiest thing to try first. As indicated above get 2 quarts of Lucas gear oil and 2 4oz bottle of GM posi additive. Suck all the fluid out of your diff and add about 1/2 qt of the gear oil. Then dump both bottles of the additive into the 1/2 empty bottle of gear lube and shake it up. Then add this to the diff and finally top off with the second bottle of gear lube. Lastly go to a parking lot and do some figure 8's or circles in one direction and then the other to work the new lube into the posi clutches.
BTW, did this on my 75 a few years ago. Before I did the diff sounded terrible, popping and shuddering during low speed turns. I couldn't believe it was only worn fluid but after doing the above, it hasn't made a noise in several years now. FWIW.
