I have an 81 that has noise coming from the blower fan / motor area, not sure which is fubar. Is there any easy way to access the fan from inside the car or do I have to pull the motor to gain access?? This doesn't look easy as there is not much room in there.
thanks

The fan is only accessible from the engine bay, and in order to really inspect it you will have o remove it. It's not all that hard though you will have to remove the overflow tank to get access to it under the passenger fender upper ledge. Just lay a blanket over the fender and lean on over and look up under. You'll see it.
Disconnect the wiring, and the air tube. There are four perimeter hex screws...maybe 1/4" if I recall correctly.
Pry the fan away from the air box, and it'll come right out.
Durango Boy: Thanks, looking at the overflow tank, I can't see how I will be able to put that thing out with all the A/C hoses running overtop/nearby. any suggestions

That's true I hadn't removed one from a car that had an A/C compressor. Both cars were A/C cars but the compressor and lines were gone.
In that case I would have to inspect but 'maybe' the compressor could be unbolted from the bracket and set aside while still connected to the hoses.
