Back from lunch today went to adjust the rear view mirror, and the mirror came off in my hand. It's always something, eh? Anyway... I got to looking at it, and it looks like an easy fix with some good adhesive to put the mirror back into the housing. Any suggestions for an adhesive - or will any old good adhesive do?
Another observation - my interior is now black, and somehow for the first time I noticed the trim around the mirror is tan... is this correct? I know the original color of the interior was 423 - Dg/V... is there a standard color for the "trim" around the mirror, or was it matched to the interior?
Someone out there knows... lol
Thanks!
Bill
Oh - btw, '71, optioned with "custom" interior trim...
I don't know crap about mirror trim codes, but I've pulled off my share of rear view mirrors. I've always just bought a rear view mirror re-stick kit. They aren't really that expensive, and you can find them almost anywhere (Autozone, Walmart, etc.)
Yep, there is a very cheap and easy kit to buy when gluing the metal tab back onto the glass. Instructions are right on the packaging and it's super easy.
However, this is a good time for an upgrade if you're not looking for that 100% original effect.
I like installing the mirrors from Cavaliers and Sunfires because they have little map lights. It's very easy to pull the header trim and pillar trim and piggy back a white and orange wire up the birdcage. Then, use the pigtail from the mirror and splice them in. Small notch in the header trim and it'll look stock. The mirror will use the stock tab, and the lights will work just like the courtesy circuit except you have the option of turning them on with the switch too.

Yes, the trim around the mirror is whiteish, light tan color and is correct for 68-71.
Cant tell you about the adhesive to try to use but can add that zip carries these mirrors.
Hope this helps.
My mirror was screwed into the t of the t-tops, not glued to the windshield, But mine was in bad shape, so I changed it to a stick on type. It appears that the glass has a plastic coating on it, on the inside. the first kit I useed very carefully came right off in my hand the next day. So i marked the spot and took some fine sandpapper, then gave the spot a light buff, cleaned it with alcohol, and used a second kit, after cleaning off the old glue on the metal tab with a razor. Stuck perfectly up to now. C.
Well the Sunfire was introduced with the second generation of Cavaliers. I don't know if the post '02 cars have the same kinds of mirrors without getting features like Onstar and temp gauges...but my Fiancee's Cavalier has a simple black mirror with a pair of switched maplights. You can look for them from the first Sunfire to the very least an '02. Just keep it simple and get the one with the lights and make sure it comes with a pigtail. I think adding a mirror with the temp gauge or compass would get too complicated since those things require extra components.
