Default 73 454 in for some work

Bought my #'s matching 1973 LS4 survivor back in March. Finally got it into Corvette Repair in Valley Stream, NY to go over everything. I'm going to have it judged at a NCRS meet in September.

Kevin Mackay and his staff put out some of the nicest restorations anywhere, and there's my lowly '73 in with priceless race cars and other ultra rare vettes.

Kevin gave me a tour of his huge warehouse next door stuffed with a row of L88's, a ZR1, a ZR2 and a couple of Baldwin Motion cars!

Can't wait to see what they do with mine

Time to get back in The Silver Devil and head back to work so I can pay for this!

A few years ago they were the outfit that did that green L-88 cutaway showing the internal workings and it was featured in Corvette Fever. It was on their website the last time I checked. I've been dying to check the place out as I have some good friends who live in Valley Stream who I see a couple times a year, and had a neighbor who worked there. Maybe this summer.
Good luck with the 73!

...do you have the original A.I.R. pump? Good bit of points lost if you do not have one. If you do not have an "original" oil filter, air filter, belts & hoses, make sure you have AC Delco service replacements that way you'll get "some" points for those items. The battery is a 40 point item, ZERO if it's not an AC Delco one. Make sure you have all proper "glove box" pieces. Battery, tire warranty, emission pamphlets, sun visor starting instructions, owner's manual. Leave the service records, oil change receipts at home. Thought tires were a big deduct if they are not Goodyear or Firestone branded or sized correctly(P225-70-15 in your case).
Operations is an area were people loose a ton of points for non-working wipers, windshield washers, all lights, horn(s), alarm system & horn(a big one that a lot of people forget even how to use it), cigarette lighter, e-brake & light, A/C & heater system, radio, etc.

Good Luck, your car should do great!

I remember the first time I went there back in the early 90's with my first corvette, a 73 L82. I thought I was lost, because you drive down a completely residental street and it's not til you get to the dead end that there's this little shop where you'd least expect it

It's only recently that Kevin acquired the huge building to the left (which is entered from a different street). He's already got an unbelievable collection of super rare vettes in there!

I'm lucky enough to live only 4 miles away, so I've seen some of those famous creations in the flesh (er, fiberglass).

Thanks. No, don't have the air pump, that's awfully expensive to do it right and I'll have to save up for that one. I'm lucky that everything works on the car - even things like the clock, original radio and seat belt buzzer, so Operations should be good. The car's got original 35 year old paint, so it will be interesting to see how condition's judged. Have all original owner's documents. All parts that are being replaced are being done correctly with date-coded reproductions. Two areas I'll get killed on are missing air pump and tires that are too wide. So, no I'm not getting Top Flight just yet. I'm just doing it to get a baseline on the car since I've only had it a few months.

Thanks. The only downside is these guys are so good they keep pointing out things that aren't correct - "This bolt's not right", "This clamp's wrong", "The finish on this should be", etc. All resulting in more and more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!

Here's what I saw the other day looking quick from the street - I thought they started doing a frame off restoration on my car
But then I looked closer and realized they just rolled half of someone else's car under mine

Don't know. Got to wait for them to finish the more important stuff (see below). It's tough enough to get into that shop - once it's finally there, it can stay as long as it takes. I'm driving my C6 to Carlisle next week anyway.

I had my 71 in to see Kevin a few times. At the time they were working the late Chip Miller's Purple People Eater race car. They were also working on Chip's 1960 LeMans Factory Race car....it was a real thrill to see them.......and of course my 71 on the lift.

Waking into his shop you never know what piece of Corvette history your going to see.

I actually don't mind that my car's been there a while, because it gives me a chance to poke my head in each day and see what's new!

O.K., Kevin asked me to interview you for the job. Let's start out with a simple task as a test. How long would it take you to put these back together?
