I am new to the crossfire system so I need some help. Neither of my injectors on my 82 are spraying so the car is not starting; here is a little backgound.
When I purchased the car it did not have the crossfire on it and it was missing the heads also. The previous owner must of switched it to a carb because the wiring was hidden around backside of the heater core box and the transmission cable had an aftermarket bracket on it. I have rebuilt the motor and have been trying to start it for about a week. Here is what I have done so far:
1) New 85 fuel pump
2) All new fuel lines
3) New new fuel tank
4) New fuel filter
5) Replaced all the fuses - injector(2), fuel pump relay, ecm, fuse in battery compartment.
6) New cap and rotor
The car does start when I put fuel into the throttle bodies. I also hear the pump kick on for the 2-4 seconds when I turn the key on, the pump is also running when I am turning the engine over. I can also hear the fuel come into the throttle body when you turn the key to the on position but it will not spray. One thing I have not checked was the fuel pressure. I bought a used crossfire set up off of an 84 and I am very concerned that it is really messed up.
If yiou are certain you have pressure to the injectors and boltage too (apart from checking the fuse, check it at the injector too), if that's the case then it's the ground circuit on the injector. The ground circuit is grounded by the injector driver and if the problem is there the ECM is most likely bad (not uncommon) or you have a ground issue
Check fuel pressure first, then check injector voltage.
The fact that you hear the pump is not proof that you have actual fuel pressure.
If you pour fuel down the throttle blades, it does start...but does it keep running?
No, it must be the injector voltage or injector driver. None of the other will stop the fuel from being sprayed apart from fuel pump, relay and pressure switch. If it was the relay, the engine woudl run after starting with starter fluid because the pressure switch would supply the 12v. This is not the case.
Check for fuel pressure, the hose may have come off the pump (or maybe you wired the 85 pump the wrong way around?)
It can't be the pressure switch, the switch and relay are wired in parallel off a 12v feed, so when you turn the ign key on the ecm powers the relay for a couple of secs, you hear the pump running. When not cranking it will turn off. Then when you crank the ecm will power the relay again, when the engine is running the relay will shut off again and by then you have oil pressure and the switch provides power to the pump.
So, can't be either of those 2 since your car is not even starting. It starts off the relay.
