I am restoring a 68 Convertible. The restoration was started by the previous owner, who ran out of money. I bought the car and I am finishing it up.
None of the interior has any electrical power (lights, gauges,...). I noticed under the car there are two ground straps that are attached to the frame but are not attached to anything else. There is a connecter on the end of each strap that looks like it should perhaps bolt to something. Does anyone know what these ground straps should attach to? Thanks!
the black gnd straps bolt to the bird cage.
1 near the drivers side parking brake behind the dash.
the factory depended on a small braid wire to gnd the bird cage, to the frame, on the drivers side.
I have ran a new seperate Heavy gnd. cable from the bird cage to the frame.
to ensure the cage is grounded and everything connected will work properly. good luck .... 69VETT
The picture of the ground tied to the exhaust is a great illustration of my question. I have two open connectors (one for each braided ground wire)that aren't tied to anything. In this picture he has them tied to one of the bolts on his exhaust. If it is not suppose to be tied to the exhaust, any idea where these are suppose to be tied to? Thanks
I suspect these should tie your frame to the rocker channels,
the rocker channels are part of the bird cage.
I don't think those gnd straps are located on the crossmember like that from the factory.
You must have a good gnd from your frame, to your bird cage.
for everything to work properly.

you also must have a very good gnd from frame to Starter/Engine.
